If you are an owner of a black thumb like I am, you will appreciate this post. I will fully admit that, not only do I own a black thumb, but I have never paid so much attention to the exterior of any of the homes I have lived in quite like this one.

This will be the third time that I have refreshed my front porch. We have only lived here for not even 2 years. This refresh is still a work in progress. You can see what I have planned for it here. It’s not getting a complete overhaul. Just a few changes. And with fall approaching I like to give things a fall spruce up.

For my most recent refresh I did just a few months ago, I had originally put a small planter (that I made) with fresh flowers in it on my front porch. And I loved it.

I loved the look of fresh flowers out there…but then I forgot about them..and then they started to stink…and then the dog got a hold of the stinky dead flowers and rolled around in them…and then she stunk. It just wasn’t worth it.

So when I purchased these metal buckets for my “new” front porch I knew I wanted to add flowers to them. But I wasn’t going down the stinky rotten flower route again.

I embraced the faux. There is no reason to fear faux flowers. This is the year of the faux. And with fall and winter approaching faux just seems to make so much more sense.

These metal buckets I purchased are huge. I love them but dang I had no idea how large they were. The largest bucket is 25″ high. I think I can fit my youngest child inside of it with room still for the dog. Because these buckets are so massive I knew I needed some large scale flowers…with a side of smaller flowers.

I kept the color scheme fairly neutral which is just my preference. I like to go heavy on the greens and add in a few pops of color. Again, just my preference. Also, my front porch is covered. You can find fade resistant flowers if you need to. I found my flowers at TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby.

My first step is to add in the large greens. I like for my arrangements to be full and have the greens spilling over the bucket. The sloppier the better.
